The girls swim team has had remarkable wins. This is due to the intense practices they have everyday and the work they put in during practices to make them excel. So far, they have won against Washington, 50-44, and Solorio, 96-67. On September 13, the girls came in second in the Girls Swimming South Side Invitational. Even though they came second to Washington at the Invitational, they beat them at their first meet.
Coach Bryant says, “This year is looking really promising. Our captain Alycia Carson and co-captain Gaby Garcia, have been pushing the team to do their best in practice. They are preparing for the City Championships and I believe they will rank high.”
Staying to watch a practice the team looks really good. The best swimmers from what I’ve seen so far that deserve recognition are junior Dahlia Martinez, junior Kennedy Graves, senior Alycia Carson, senior Gaby Garcia, senior Antoinette Burgess, and many others have made a remarkable effort by being a team member and encouraging their fellow team members when they feel like giving up.
Right before a meet, Graves had a way of intimidating the other team: by leading the team in stretches. The team starts off with English, then they move on to Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and lastly Arabic. At first it was used to help Language speaking students on the team remember their numbers but soon that all changed and they went “international” every practice and every warm-up before a meet. Coach Saul Gonzalez says, “It helps the team and I’m proud to be their coach when they show so much team spirit.”
They are trying their best, going against Washington, Westinghouse, Jones, and other schools with competitive swim teams that have trumped Lindblom girl’s swim team before. With a win on September 24, the girls all seem really excited to start the season off great and showing their coaches that they are a team. Thanks to Coach Bryant and the Assistant Coach Gonzalez, the team is looking great and they seem to be on a promising start of the season.
