#16. St. Louis Rams – Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
By Joshua Chapman
I have decided against mocking trades for takes 2 & 3, as it’s gotten too messy. In addition, this was completed before any trades happened.
1. Kansas City Chiefs – Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
Previous pick: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas
Joeckel is still the pick here. The Chiefs already have their QB in Alex Smith. They’re really in a position to get the best player available. They also released right tackle Eric Winston, opening an immediate starting spot for Luke Joeckel, the best offensive tackles in the draft. Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher is closing ground, but doesn’t have the body of work Joeckel does, having played against SEC competition his entire collegiate career. Joeckel could easily be the next Joe Thomas, who has been a cornerstone for the Cleveland Brown since the day he’s been drafted. Andy Reid can’t pass him up.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars – Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon
Previous pick: Kawann Short, DT, Purdue (pick 31)
Jacksonville’s new coach, Gus Bradley, is bringing his hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense over from Seattle. To do this, he needs a versatile player that can stand up, put his hand in the dirt, and basically be a jack of all trades. That’s where Jordan comes in. Jordan is a freak athlete, running a 4.6 40 time at 6’7”, 250 pounds. He’s versatile enough to cover tight ends and slot receivers as well as rushing the quarterback. Bradley goes a long way in trying to rebuild the Jaguars.
3. Oakland Raiders – Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
Previous pick: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia (pick 8)
