This is the second in a three part series where I analyze the Bulls off-season and what I believe they should do in order to become legit contenders for the NBA title. To see the trades I believe they should consider, click here.
Worst Case Scenario Big-Man: Steven Adams, C, Pittsburgh
This is actually a decent pick for the Bulls: just not for the immediate future. Adams, a 19-year old from New Zealand, is extremely raw offensively as well as being an average offensive rebounder. His mid-range shot is still a work in progress; however it looked very fluid at the NBA combine. He’s also a good defender at the rim, a mediocre one-on-on defender and a good defensive rebounder, which meshes well with Coach Tom Thibodeau’s defensive schemes. Adams needs some time to fully develop, which doesn’t help the Bulls right now. The Bulls desperately need a backup center to give Joakim Noah a breather that can contribute right away and Adams doesn’t look to be the part at the moment.
Worst Case Scenario Guard: Tim Hardaway Jr., SG, Michigan
Again, this isn’t a bad pick for the Bulls. Hardaway is a great athlete, a decent perimeter defender and a three-point shooter, going 19-25 at the NBA combine. But I’m not sure that he’ll be able to contribute this year, regardless if Tom Thibodeau plans to change his personal views on not playing rookies. Hardaway needs to become more consistent, considering he put on a good disappearing act in the NCAA tournament. He also needs to work on driving to the rim more to become more than just a spot-up shooter. If the Bulls are patient and give Hardaway a year or two to develop, then he can be a real asset for the Bulls. If they’re expecting him contribute right away, the Bulls might be in some trouble.
