Following a disappointing end to a very successful season last year, where the boy’s baseball team went 18-3, the team seems to be coming with a vengeance this year. Under the head of new coach, Chris Brown, the team has not taken a day off this offseason, working to get better everyday by putting in the hard work required.
When asked about his expectations for the upcoming season, Junior Roger Tisby said, “This season will be successful because of our off season hard work and dedication the game. We will be ready.”
Along with a new and improved varsity team there will be a frosh-soph team this year. The team plans on being equally successful as the varsity team, since they have put in the same amount of work.
Last year the baseball team took early exits from the city playoffs in the first round losing to Morgan Park and the state playoffs in the regional finals losing to Jones College Prep. Instead of sulking on these losses the team has used them for motivation; with most of the team from last year returning. Junior Daniel Johnson said “We look a lot better than last year and feel like we can shock the world since everyone underestimates us. We have learned from our mistakes from last season and plan to showcase that this season and with new our new coach. One thing for sure is that we are in much better shape”.
The team has improved mentally and physically. They are anxious looking forward to the season beginning in March. They play a much tougher schedule this year as they are moving into a tougher conference, but they are definitely ready for it.
