2014 Pom Team was the last
By: Na'Yia Brooks
Last year the Lindblom Pom Pom squad resurfaced after Coach Eariel Jeffers disappeared in the middle of the 2013 school year. Poms gained a new leader, Coach Morgan, and became the highlight of the basketball games once again. Observers couldn’t wait until halftime to see the maroon and gold girls move. This year Poms has been eliminated and something new has been initiated.
This year, Poms has been replaced with Ms. Doyle’s dance team. This will be Ms. Doyle’s second year at Lindblom but first time coaching a dance squad. This year’s dance squad will be different from what Lindblom is used to. Ms. Doyle, with a degree in dance education from Columbia College, said that this year’s dance team will be one with variety. Ms. Doyle said she is most excited for the squads homecoming performance.
There has been many rumors as to why the old squad has been cancelled. Some say Coach Morgan quit, others say she found another job. Junior and former poms squad member, Jorian Reeves, said “I really don’t know what happened to Morgan, school started back and there was no poms.”
Will the Poms team ever get it right? Year after year Pom girls faced the threat of being cut. In 2010 Poms was taken away, for what many thought would be forever, after dancing to sexually explicit music. In 2012, the Poms team was cut short and only danced at the homecoming game because their coach disappeared shortly after. Last year appeared to be a fresh start, however, Coach Morgan hasn’t returned this year.
The Poms squad has lost two coaches in the last two years and is now being replaced this year.
