Senior year can become overwhelming. As a senior, there is so much to do in so little time. Completing college applications, staying on track with school work, and compiling together a senior portfolio all fall on the “senior year to-do list.”
During senior year, students are expected to balance school work while also being involved. Senior Lily Zaragoza said, “College things are so stressful because they require so much from us.”
Colleges don’t want to see that a student decided to take the “easy route” and only take classes that are considered easy. However, students don’t want to overwork themselves and take more than they can handle.
Senior Elizabeth “Lizzie” Toye also said,“It is hard to balance school stuff and being a regular teenager. We also have to schedule going to college fairs on the weekends and it could be a lot to balance.”
Balance is the Key
The key to senior year is balance. Here are a few steps on how to balance senior year:
1) Stay organized. Keep resumes, essays, and school documents together and in a central place. UTILIZE SENIOR PORTFOLIOS!
2) Be involved in extracurriculars that you enjoy. It won’t feel like a lot of work if you’re also having fun.
3) Let senior year be the year that you do something you always wanted to do, but never could. Join a new sport or team and contribute to your Lindblom community!
4) Utilize support classes on colloquium and complete as much work as you can.
5) Make sure you know who your counselor is and make sure they know who you are! Once a relationship is built with your counselor, the path to college becomes much easier.
You’re Not Alone
One final tip for a successful senior year is to interact with other seniors. There are 190 other students who know what you’re going through.
Since the school year has started, I feel that seniors haven’t been as supportive of each other as we could be.
Senior Karina Reyes said, “From the beginning, I have been excited. I feel our class lacks unity. We should work together and support each other and the year would run more smoothly.”
I completely agree, and it isn’t too late to change.
