Mr. Mather held a special breakfast for community leaders in Englewood, Lindblom Staff, on last Friday. The main goal of the meeting was for the leaders to discuss issues that are going on in the community and how Lindblom could help.
The teachers and leaders came in and were greeted by Lindblom students who passed out name tags and directed them into the Ball Room were a buffet style breakfast was served. While the teachers, staff, and students ate breakfast they got a chance to socialize with one another and begin the discussion that many of them were eager to dig into; how could Lindblom be a help to the Englewood community?
Mr. Mather began the meeting off by giving a back ground synopsis of the school and the student’s accomplishments, and then began to tell them the reason for being at the breakfast. The plan is to take next year’s colloquium classes and turn them into classes that will benefit the community and help solve some of the many problems that inflict the people of Englewood. The teachers, community leaders and students then began to talk about the needs in the community and wrote out problems that were evident and how classes could benefit both students and community.
Junior Joshaun Head who is an active student here at LMSA gave his thoughts on this idea. “I think by expanding and creating a colloquium giving students the chance to work with the community will allow our students to think beyond these walls and be exposed to new things” says Joshaun.
The teachers were excited as well to create classes that were not only going to enrich the students but the community that we stand in. “I think it’s a great idea to have classes that our students can participate in to help the community” Says English Teacher Ms.Napelton, “And the breakfast was a great idea to bring everyone together”. It will be exciting to see what the staff of LMSA and the leading voices of Englewood come up with, to make the community stronger and create a bond with the school and the residents.
