In the past 6 years, Lindblom has had 2 blood drives. The first one was through “Life Source” in 2011 and the second one this year with “Red Cross.” Mrs. Copper wants to have a drive blood once or twice a year. If a senior leads the blood drive like Heaven Johnson did this year, they are eligible for a scholarship in leadership. This is a great opportunity for our seniors and also for our underclassmen who would like to take the task their senior year. Heaven Johnson was our liaison with the Red Cross and she directed the blood drive. Only having a limited amount of time planning this event in colloquium, Mrs. Copper is pleased with how the event turned out.
Over 70 people showed up to donate and 27 people were deferred. The 27 people who could not donate should not be discourage or upset. The reasons that people were deferred was from high temperature, tattoos, weight/height, low iron, and travel outside the U.S. The Red Cross is not only worried about the blood being bad, but also the health of the students. By discovering why you couldn’t donate, you also learned something about yourself and your health. Red Cross is grateful that these students came to donate blood and they will also receive a thank you card for trying to donate. The students that were able to donate will also receive a thank you card and know their blood type.
Red Cross received 40 pints from Lindblom. The goal was to collect 45 pints, but Mrs. Copper said “We were happy we could get the 40 pints.” The 40 pints will save 120 lives. Mrs. Copper donated 1 pint and about 6 other teachers donated as well. Red Cross was pleased with how much blood was donated that they want another blood drive! This blood drive was sponsored by the Human Anatomy Class.
