Lindblom's Dance department held a dance performance last month to showcase the efforts by our dance program this past semester.
The showcase featured routines choreographed by the Honors Dance students as well as by Lindblom's new dance teacher, Ms. Doyle. The dances were comprised of students in Ms. Doyle's Honors Dance, as well as her Hip-Hop Dance colloquium class. There were also performances by members of Lindblom's Pom-Pon team, which included a solo performance by senior Kayla Clancy.
As for reception, the show was a hit. The seats of the auditorium were filled far beyond expectation and after each performance came a grand round of applause. "I think the audience enjoyed it" Ms. Doyle said, "I'm not quite sure what they were expecting...There were a lot more people in the audience than I thought there was going to be, which a good thing."
Ms. Doyle hopes to put on another show in the near future and says "that this show is a great jumping off point," and that, "any subsequent show can only get better."
Lindblom's Dance Department will hold it's first "Day of Dance" to raise money for the department on Saturday, February 15, 2014.
Lindblom Dance program will be extending next year and offering more advanced dance classes. As for being a beginner, Ms. Doyle says, "I would want people to know that you do not have to be a dancer to come and take the dance classes...It's more about the experience of moving and being a part of something that has performances and works with the community and creates based on their creativity and not mine or anyone else's."
As a participant in this performance and as a student in the dance program, I can attest to the fact that in the future, Lindblom's dance program can only continue to expand and go on to continue to create great things with Ms. Doyle's guidance and the support of the Lindblom fine arts department, students, and the community behind it.
