The current school policy does not allow students to order food and have food delivered to the school. Because of this, students are left with only three choices: bring a lunch, be subjected to eating the food the cafeteria serves, or starve. Obviously, these options are not ideal. With all the chaos of getting ready in the morning, students oftentimes don’t have time to make a lunch in the morning. School lunch could be a bit pricey if a student does not qualify for free or reduced lunch. Lastly, hungry students are both grouchy and difficult to deal with.
Students should be allowed to order food and have it delivered to the schools. Lunch periods are 50-minutes long, which is more than enough time to have the food delivered. Students understand that Lindblom is a closed-campus school. Ordering food does not violate that policy. Additionally, ordering food would not disrupt the school in any way. When the food arrives, the deliveryman could call the students and the students could meet them in the foyer. The exchange of food for money could happen in a quick and efficient manner and the student will no longer have to go through the day hungry.
If delivery to the school is out of the question, why not have the pizza truck that comes after school or have other food trucks come to the school so students can purchase food around lunch time. With this option, the school’s security can watch students as they approach the truck and while they order the food. This option would be both cost efficient for students and more organized.
Either option for having outside food in the school around lunchtime will lead to happy students.
